DHA launches HASANA, a public health system for disease surveillance and management in Dubai

": With the aim of managing and containing the spread of communicable diseases, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) launched HASANA, an integrated electronic public health system for disease surveillance and management. The system will integrate all DHA and private health facilities in Dubai, to provide a single immunization record for each individual in all health facilities in Dubai. HASANA, which was launched on Tuesday at the School of Research Science will be used by all public health providers in Dubai— government and private – such as schools hospitals and clinics to manage immunization, investigations and outbreaks. This integrated disease surveillance and management system linked to school health as it will aid schools in managing student’s immunization and plan and deliver mass immunization campaigns in school. HASANA aims to provide all 281,577 private school students with immunization records. The total number of students who will be getting vaccination for the month of April 22 to May 16th,2018, is 1,511 while the expected number of students to be vaccinated until the end of Academic year of 2018 is 23,158. Following the launch, His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of the DHA said HASANA is an important addition to the overall projects and initiatives implemented by the DHA in order to preserve the health and life of the members of society and to reach a healthier and happier society. Al Qutami said that the authority\'s keenness to start this ambitious project in schools represents an important translation of the school health policy adopted by His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council. Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of Primary Health Care Sector said the system will support DHA’s strategy by seamlessly integrating government and private health facilities and partners enabling all of them to access the same immunization data and ensure complete and high quality care for all. She added that it will also equip decision makers in Dubai with the necessary tools to prevent, detect, and manage the outbreak of communicable diseases in an efficient manner hence allowing better planning of resources and manpower and allocate them where there is pressing needs. HASANA will also improve the productivity of the healthcare staff allowing the providers to direct their efforts fully to the patient’s care and provide a smart application to manage and administer school mass immunization campaigns. Dr Taryam added that parents of a child living in Dubai will be able to view child\'s vaccination schedule from their mobile, get reminders when their child is due for a vaccination by using Tifli mobile application, hence ensuring that they won’t be immunized multiple times and that they are safe from communicable diseases. Children will also not have to worry about losing their consent forms while nurses will no longer carry papers and logbooks around during immunizations, use a scanner to send documents to DHA and lose consent forms or receipts Amani Al Jassmi, Director of IT at the DHA that this public health solution for disease surveillance management system will integrate all DHA and private health facilities in Dubai, providing a single immunization record for each client in all health facilities in Dubai and a robust system to manage and contain the spread of communicable diseases. Al Jassmi added that the main modules planned for the current phase of the project are: - Immunization Management: immunization schedules and eligibility, immunization planning and management, adverse effects, mass immunization campaigns. - Outbreak Management: prevention, monitoring, management and analysis of outbreak cases. - Investigation Management: identification, investigation, and management of Cases and Contacts, tracking clinical data related to investigations, including signs and symptoms, complications, outcomes, interventions, and treatment plans. Al Qutami concluded by expressing his appreciation to all the strategic partners and collaborators in the implementation of the HASANA project and the school health policy. He also thanked the teams working in the field of primary health care and IT management, as well as school administrations. Efforts for better health for our children. "
