Dr. Alawi AlSheikh-Ali inaugurates the Global Health Expo for Health Technology (WHX Tech 2025) in Dubai

Dubai, UAE, 8 September 2025 – His Excellency Dr. Alawi AlSheikh-Ali, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, today inaugurated the first edition of the Global Health Expo for Health Technology (WHX Tech 2025), which runs until 10 September at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event brings together over 300 exhibitors, 200 international speakers, and nearly 5,000 participants representing more than 30 countries.

His Excellency toured the newly launched platform dedicated to digital health innovations, visiting several exhibitors from around the world and exploring the latest products and services in artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality, cybersecurity, virtual care, and big data analytics.

On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Alawi AlSheikh-Ali highlighted that the first edition of WHX Tech reflects the rapid advancement of digital health technologies and their growing importance in shaping the future of the healthcare sector. He stressed that the cutting-edge solutions presented at the expo will enhance healthcare services and improve patient outcomes, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai,to cement Dubai’s position as a global hub for health innovation.

His Excellency further emphasised that the Dubai Health Authority’s support for this global event reaffirms its commitment to building an advanced digital health infrastructure, adopting AI-powered solutions to optimise system efficiency and enhance patient experience.

Over the next three days, the expo will explore the future of digital healthcare through three innovative platforms: World X, Future X, and Xcelerate.

Additionally, His Excellency Dr Amin Al Ameeri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Health Regulation Sector at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, inaugurated the World X platform, which showcases global case studies on the implementation of advanced technologies in healthcare, provides insights into future regulatory frameworks, and highlights the Middle East’s emergence as a leading centre for digital health innovation.

World X offers visitors the opportunity to hear from prominent industry leaders, including:

  • Sam Shah, Director of Healthcare Data Management at NEOM, Saudi Arabia
  • Reneeta Dass, Partner and Senior Vice-President at Frost & Sullivan
  • Dr Myriam Fernández Martín, Head of Healthcare Innovation at Amazon Web Services
  • Dr David Rhew, Global Chief Medical Officer and Head of Healthcare at Microsoft

Meanwhile, the Future X platform hosted a series of diverse panel discussions on its opening day, covering topics such as next-generation digital health applications and the role of AI in delivering measurable and meaningful healthcare impact, with contributions from King’s College London, Huawei, and the Embassy of Ireland.

This week also marks the launch of the Xcelerate platform, which hosts the region’s largest digital health startup competition, with cash prizes totalling USD 50,000. Starting today, more than 40 promising startups will showcase their solutions, with shortlisted companies pitching to an international panel of investors and industry leaders.

The WHX Tech Expo is held in strategic partnership with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), ensuring that the event’s content aligns with the sector’s top priorities.
