Dubai Health Authority, Emirati Human Resources Development Council and Higher Colleges of Technology collaborate on Emirati healthcare workforce journey

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 12 June 2024: Dubai Health Authority, in collaboration with Emirati Human Resources Development Council and Higher Colleges of Technology, hosted an innovative workshop titled "The Journey of Emirati Human Resources in the Health Sector" at the authority's innovation laboratory.
In attendance were Abdulaziz Al Falahi, General Supervisor of Employment at the UAE Human Resources Development Council, Dr. Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of Health Regulation Sector at the Dubai Health Authority and Dr. Wadeia Mohammad Sharif, Director of Medical Education and Research Department (MERD) at the DHA.
Yousef Bin Lahej, Senior Director of School Awareness Project at Emirati Human Resources Development Council, led the workshop. All stakeholders discussed a detailed roadmap and strategy for Emirati healthcare workforce development. This initiative marks a significant progress in integrating education outcomes with industry requirements, particularly in key sectors.
Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director-General of Human Resources Department in Dubai and Deputy Chairman of the Council, said: "The UAE's private health sector stands out for its diversity and excellence, offering abundant qualitative opportunities beyond regional boundaries. The private health sector in the UAE offers abundant opportunities globally for citizens. Successful Emiratisation in healthcare hinges on aligning academic outputs with sector requirements. The 'Emirati Human Resource Journey' initiative serves as a platform to address challenges and opportunities in vital sectors like healthcare, crucial for societal well-being and prosperity."
Dr. Marwan Al-Mulla, CEO of the Health Regulation Sector at the Dubai Health Authority, highlighted the wealth of skilled national medical professionals in Dubai, showcasing excellence across specialties and subspecialties. He affirmed the Authority's commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to enhance national medical workforce through strategic training and qualification initiatives, ensuring top-notch healthcare services amid sectoral advancements.
Dr. Al Mulla commended the Council for their significant contributions, underscoring the Council's pivotal role in fostering workforce development and sectoral growth.
He acknowledged the Council's crucial role in advancing Emiratization policies, especially in healthcare. He emphasized the Council's significant contribution to promoting Emirati workforce development across various sectors.
Sumaya Abdulaziz Al Hosani, HCT Vice President of Strategy and Future, highlighted the institution's focus on preparing national cadres to meet the demands of vital sectors. By aligning educational programs with industry needs, the college empowers students with relevant cognitive and professional skills. The partnership with the "Nafis" program further encourages students to pursue health specialisations and contribute to the private healthcare sector.
Al Hosani praised the Emirates Human Resources Development Council for launching the "Emirati Human Resource Journey" initiative, fostering collaboration between educational, labor, and industry entities to achieve national goals. The colleges of technology prioritise partnerships to support national visions and aspirations, particularly in enhancing workforce integration and qualitative outcomes.
The session included leaders from the Council, the Dubai Health Authority, the Higher Colleges of Technology, and specialised teams, enriching the discussions. It was decided to expedite the introduction of new specializations in technical colleges for the academic year 2024/2025, aligning with labor market demands and building on partnerships between the Authority, the Council, and the colleges. Additionally, plans were made to attract Emirati health talent, empower them, and facilitate their integration into the job market.
