United Arab Emirates, Dubai, December 21, 2011: His Excellency Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, inaugurated today the Hybrid OT system at the Rashid Hospital.

The highly specialised system is the first to be installed in the UAE and is sponsored by Ahmed Seddiqi and Sons.
Al Murooshid said, “We would like to extend our appreciation to Ahmed Seddiqi and Sons for sponsoring this state-of-the-art system. This system will significantly benefit patients as it is minimally invasive, which means reduced hospitalization period of patients and it is cost effective.”

“At the DHA, we are constantly working to enhance our healthcare services and this system is highly beneficial for our patients, especially when dealing with complicated cases.”

Dr Shawqi Khoori, CEO of Rashid Hospital said, “This is a significant development for our hospital. The hybrid OT is a system that combines both catherization and surgical procedures which are normally found in separate locations and thus combining these procedures within one system means less time, less discomfort and lesser risk for the patient.

The system allows two different procedures to be carried out one after the other in the hybrid OT. This eliminates the need to transfer patients from one section to the other, reduces the waiting time from one procedure to the other and ensures quicker patient recovery.”

He said previously a patient would have been sent to the cardiovascular lab for ballooning, wait several weeks, then go to the OT for bypass surgery. Now such a patient does not have to return to hospital twice for both operations and can get it done at one time.

Dr Younis Kazim, Medical Director of Rashid Hospital said, “In addition to these features, the hybrid OT has large scale imaging equipment, the system has 3D CT scans and computed tomography. Moreover, imaging is possible ever during surgical interventions which ensures accuracy.”

Dr Ayman Al Sibaie, Consultant at Rashid Hospital said, “The Hybrid OT also has a 3D roadmap which allows us to get accurate imaging at any point in time. Moreover, the system allows multiple teams to manage complicated cases at one time which results in better patient outcomes.”
“We can also perform all types of vascular and neurovascular cases using this system.”

He explained that several cases such as closure of various blood vessels before they rupture can be performed with the Hybrid OT.
