Dermatology 

 

The Department of Dermatology is a full service facility for the management of acute and chronic skin diseases as well as sexually transmitted diseases and is based at Rashid Hospital.

The department serves Rashid Hospital, Dubai Hospital, Al Wasl Hospital and peripheral health centers in different locations of Dubai.

  • The following services are provided:

Outpatient clinics: Four specialist clinics in Rashid hospital including one afternoon clinic.

• Two specialist clinics in Dubai Hospital.
• Nine peripheral health centers: Al Towar, Al Safa, Rashidiya, Umsuqaim, Al Mankhool, Al Bada, Al Mamzar , Al Khawaneej and Nad Al Sheba.

For acute dermatology cases or referrals, two doctors, who cover the three hospitals, are on call 24 hours a day.

Acute cases or those that need further management will be admitted to Rashid Hospital while pediatric cases will be admitted to Dubai Hospital in level 4.

  • The dermatology department is involved in:
    • The management of the clinical care, health education and follow-up of all outpatients suffering from skin, hair or nail diseases.
    • The care and management of inpatients with skin diseases as well as providing dermatology consultations for patients with skin disorders associated with systemic diseases who are hospitalized at DHA hospitals.
    • The diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted diseases.
    • Diagnostic procedures including skin biopsies for histopathology diagnosis.
    • Mycological KOH and cultures for different strains of fungal infections.
    • Patch tests for skin allergies.
    • A wide range of laboratory diagnostic tests.

 

  • The dermatology department provides the following treatment procedures:
    • Cryotherapy
    • Electrocautery
    • Curettage of skin lesions
    • Excisional biopsy
    • PUVA therapy and narrow band UVB for the treatment of different chronic skin diseases, in the phototherapy unit
    • Biological therapy for selective chronic skin diseases
  • How to get an appointment?

Any patient can attend the primary care health center for evaluation and management of his skin disease. If the case requires consulting a dermatologist, the doctor in the PHC will make an appointment at the dermatology clinic in the center; appointments can also be taken at the peripheral health centers for the dermatology clinic in Rashid or Dubai Hospitals, in which case a letter of referral is required.

Patients can be referred from other specialty departments within DHA hospitals to the dermatology clinics.

All dermatology clinics working hours are from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, Sunday to Thursday.
