  • Vision & Mission:

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department is an integral part of the team of healthcare services of Rashid Hospital. Rehabilitation, which is considered to be the third stage of medicine, targets patients with residual functional loss following conventional medical and or surgical management. Thus, in line with the vision and mission of this hospital, we are committed to providing our patients excellence in quality of service and products through our multidisciplinary team approach.

  • Our Profile:

We are indeed the largest physical medicine and rehabilitation department in the UAE which provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care all under one roof. We have some of the most unique services which are exclusive in the UAE such as our advanced Prosthetic and orthotic services which are capable of creating cutting edge products, and the Anaplastology Lab, the first and only such service in the UAE, where life-like restorations for disfigured patients are custom built. Other services which we have pioneered are complete decongestive therapy and proliferation therapy.
This department was recently recognized as an outstanding clinical service unit and was given the Sheikh Hamdan Award. More recently, a member of its staff was awarded the Sheikh Mohammed Excellence Award for creative excellence. Other members of the staff have also received awards for quality of service over the years.

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers comprehensive rehabilitative care to adults recovering from an array of disabilities and neuromusculoskeletal disorders Our team of 67 staff members includes five medical doctors (physiatrists), 26 physiotherapists, four occupational therapists, four prosthetists/orthotists, two medical sculptors, one anaplastologist, and aides.
The development of Dubai and the resulting increase in its population have led to an increase in the workload of the hospital and in the need for prolonged post-acute care. Our department provides a sophisticated, holistic-oriented and comprehensive service, thus complementing the efforts of other medical specialist teams in this hospital.

  • Clinical services:

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for adults with acute, sub-acute or chronic illnesses of the nervous, muscular or skeletal and musculo-skeletal systems. The rehabilitation team includes physicians specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatry), physical and occupational therapists, prosthetists/orthotists, medical sculptors, an anaplastologist, and other appropriate specialists.

Dr. Suad Trebinjac MD, PhD

Dr. Suad Trebinjac graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina, former Yugoslavia, in 1982) and specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation in 1988. One year later he obtained a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Medicine and in 1995, Dr Trebinjac defended his PhD thesis.
Dr. Trebinjac has been practicing physical medicine and rehabilitation for more than 27 years, the last 13 in Dubai. He is a consultant in Rashid Hospital, as well as the head of its PM&R department. He is also a specialist physician in Al Naser Sports club. In 2007, Dr. Trebinjac was promoted to Associate Professor in Dubai Medical College for Girls.
His particular interest is regenerative medicine in rehabilitation practice, and Dr. Trebinjac is the first prolotherapist in the Middle East. Aside from prolotherapy, he is actively involved in the rehabilitation of sports injuries, spinal cord and head injuries, and a variety of chronic musculoskeletal disorders.
Dr. Trebinjac has received several awards for his work, the latest of which was the Sheikh Hamdan Award for being the head of an “Outstanding Clinical Department in UAE” in 2008.
