Definition:

 

Ear, Nose & Throat is a specialty concerned with the medical treatment of the ear, nose and throat and all related structures with regard to the head and neck.

This specialty encompasses facial reconstruction surgery of benign and malignant tumours of the head and neck, management of patients with hearing loss and vestibular disorders, endoscopic examinations of the ear, food passages, nose and paranasal sinuses and the treatment of allergies, sinuses, larynx, thyroid and communication disorders.

The department is responsible for providing medical treatment and surgery, with regards to ENT cases, to all hospitalised patients, outpatients and patients referred from other specialties.

 

Comprehensive Services List

 

A. Outpatient Services:

 

All patients referred to the department receive a complete diagnostic evaluation.

Medical treatment will be prescribed for patients who need it.

Patients who need surgical treatment will be booked for surgery.

Audiological evaluations will be conducted for hearing assessments and vestibular disorder patients.

Rehabilitation is provided for vestibular disorder patients.

Speech therapy is available for patients with communication disorders.

Dubai Hospital Outpatient Services function on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM.

Rashid Hospital Outpatient Services function on Mondays and Wednesdays between 3:30 PM and 10:30 PM and on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7:30 AM and 2:20 PM.

Al Towar Health Centre Outpatient Services function on Sundays between 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM.

Al Satwa Health Centre Outpatient Services function on Sundays between 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM.

Al Safa Health Centre Services function on Mondays between 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM.

 

B. Inpatient Services:

 

Daily ward rounds – morning and evening for patients in the department wards.

Admission of patients whose conditions need to be observed or who require parenteral treatment.

Admission of patients who are booked for surgery.

 

C. On-call Services:

 

Staff provide 24-hour on-call services to all A&E patients as well as to inpatients and patients referred from other specialties who need medical and/or surgical treatment.

 

D. Phoniatrics:

 

Phoniatrics is a branch of the ENT services that deals with different communication disorders, including language, speech, voice and swallowing disorders, and applies various diagnostic and therapeutic plans for patients with delayed speech development, hearing impairment, cochlear implants, dysphasia and dysarthria, stuttering, nasality and different speech disorders.

 

E. Voice Clinic:

 

The Voice Clinic is a highly specialised phoniatrics clinic that uses different diagnostic measures for voice and swallowing disorders, including videolaryngostroboscopy, to decide upon, and apply, the best method of intervention either medically, surgically or through rehabilitation.

 

F. Audiology:

 

Audiology is a branch of ENT that deals with patients with hearing and equilibrium problems by applying various diagnostic measures including various audiometric measures, central auditory testing and tests for vestibular disorders.  The branch also provides therapeutic services for patients with hearing impairment including hearing aid fittings and programming cochlear implants.
